Marine surveys across Kenya

Find the right marine surveyor for your boat in Kenya

Request an independent marine surveyor for a yacht, boat, fishing craft, workboat or commercial vessel in Kenya. Matching starts with the exact marina, creek, harbour or yard, vessel and survey purpose, road or island access, haul-out and trial arrangements and whether the work is private or must satisfy Kenya Maritime Authority, insurer, lender, flag or class requirements.

Kenya-wide planningMombasa port, creek marinas, northern islands and official survey scopes are planned separately.

One request, matched to the actual job

How it works

A practical route from request to inspection

The platform helps structure the enquiry and introduce suitable professionals. The selected surveyor remains responsible for agreeing scope, fee and terms with you.

1

Tell us about the yacht

Share the vessel, survey purpose, location, timing and any buyer or registry deadline.

2

We review the scope

We check geography, material, size, specialist needs and whether formal acceptance matters.

3

Receive a suitable introduction

Where available, we connect you with a surveyor whose stated capability fits the assignment.

4

Appoint independently

You compare the scope and terms, resolve conflicts and instruct the professional directly.

Important distinction

Professional membership is not automatic flag approval

For pre-purchase and condition work, competence, experience, insurance and independence are central. For tonnage, registration, coding or statutory work, the flag or accepting organisation may also require a specific appointment.

Kenya marine survey locations

Plan the survey around Kenya’s coasts and waterways

Kenya’s survey locations range from controlled Mombasa facilities to creek marinas and remote northern islands. Road, launch or flight travel, tide and haul-out capability must be confirmed from the exact berth.

Mombasa & Kilindini

Mombasa · Kilindini Harbour · Mombasa Island

Separate commercial-port attendance from marina or club work. Confirm agent, security access, berth, equipment entry and whether the boat moves for lifting.

Kilifi & Mtwapa creeks

Kilifi Creek · Mtwapa Creek · coastal moorings

Provide the marina or swing mooring and tender point. Tides, bridge or channel limits and haul-out booking should be agreed before attendance.

Find a surveyor in this region

Diani, Shimoni & south coast

Diani · Shimoni · Wasini · south coast

State whether the vessel is on a mooring, at a jetty or in a fishing harbour. Road and boat transfers and safe boarding need confirmation.

Find a surveyor in this region

Lamu & northern coast

Lamu · Manda · northern island harbours

Flights, island transfers, accommodation and current access conditions should be planned separately. Confirm vessel availability and any lift or beaching option.

Lake and inland assignments

Lake Victoria · Kisumu · inland craft locations

Inland assignments require a separate road or flight plan and clear facility information. Confirm whether the craft can be safely hauled or inspected ashore.

Frequently asked questions

Before you appoint a marine surveyor

What information is needed for a Kenya marine survey?

Send vessel particulars, exact marina, creek, harbour, yard or inland location, survey purpose and deadline, local contact, report recipient and any haul-out, trial or specialist requirement.

Is a private pre-purchase survey a Kenya Maritime Authority survey?

No. Kenya Maritime Authority administers vessel registration and statutory maritime functions. A buyer, insurer, lender or owner survey is a separate private assignment.

Does Kenyan registration require a survey?

Kenya’s Merchant Shipping Act provides for survey and tonnage ascertainment before ship registration and allows authorized surveyors or classification bodies for statutory work. KMA must confirm the applicable route.

Can a surveyor attend Lamu or an inland lake?

Potentially, subject to current travel and access. Flights, road or boat transfer, accommodation and haul-out options should be quoted for the exact location.

Does a creek mooring limit the survey?

It can. Safe tender access and an afloat inspection may be possible, but a complete pre-purchase scope normally benefits from a separate haul-out and may include a sea trial.

Are travel, launch and yard charges included?

Only when listed in the quotation. Agent support, port passes, flights, road or boat transfer, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel and specialist testing can be separate.

Can you help with commercial and specialist Kenya assignments?

Potentially. Fishing craft, workboats, damage, machinery, ultrasound, repair monitoring, cargo and on-hire or off-hire surveys require the right expertise and any formal acceptance.
