Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What is needed for a Tanzania marine survey quote?
Provide vessel particulars, exact mainland or island location, survey purpose and deadline, local operator or agent, report recipient and any haul-out, trial or specialist requirement.
Is a private survey a TASAC statutory survey?
No. TASAC provides official ship registration and survey services. A private buyer, insurer, lender or owner survey does not replace that process.
Does Zanzibar use the same access arrangements as mainland Tanzania?
Not necessarily. Zanzibar has its own local administration and port arrangements, so the competent office and agent must confirm access and any official requirement.
Can a surveyor travel to an island or inland lake?
Potentially. Flights, ferries, launches, road travel, accommodation and weather contingency should be priced for the precise site.
Does an afloat survey replace haul-out?
No. An afloat inspection can be useful, but a full pre-purchase scope normally benefits from hull inspection ashore and may include a sea trial.
Are transfers and yard fees included?
Only if listed in the quotation. Agent support, passes, travel, launches, lift or slipway, wash, relaunch, skipper and testing can be separate.
Can you help with commercial and specialist work?
Potentially. Dhows, fishing craft, workboats, damage, machinery, ultrasound, repair monitoring and on-hire or off-hire work require appropriate expertise and acceptance.
