One request, matched to the actual job

How it works

A practical route from request to inspection

The platform helps structure the enquiry and introduce suitable professionals. The selected surveyor remains responsible for agreeing scope, fee and terms with you.

1

Tell us about the yacht

Share the vessel, survey purpose, location, timing and any buyer or registry deadline.

2

We review the scope

We check geography, material, size, specialist needs and whether formal acceptance matters.

3

Receive a suitable introduction

Where available, we connect you with a surveyor whose stated capability fits the assignment.

4

Appoint independently

You compare the scope and terms, resolve conflicts and instruct the professional directly.

Important distinction

Professional membership is not automatic flag approval

For pre-purchase and condition work, competence, experience, insurance and independence are central. For tonnage, registration, coding or statutory work, the flag or accepting organisation may also require a specific appointment.

Hong Kong marine survey locations

Plan the survey around Hong Kong’s coasts and waterways

Hong Kong has dense but fragmented mooring, club, typhoon-shelter and yard arrangements. The boat’s physical location, landing point, tender or sampan access, lift facility and Class IV licensing use should be stated precisely.

Hong Kong Island & Aberdeen

Aberdeen · Wong Chuk Hang · Causeway Bay · island clubs

Provide the club, typhoon shelter or mooring and boarding point. Confirm sampan or tender access, working hours and whether haul-out is at a separate yard.

Kowloon & Victoria Harbour

Kowloon · Victoria Harbour · Kwun Tong area

High-traffic waters and controlled facilities require a clear local contact. State whether the vessel is at a club, government mooring, commercial berth or yard.

Find a surveyor in this region

Sai Kung & eastern waters

Sai Kung · Hebe Haven · Clearwater Bay

Identify the marina, club or swing mooring and safe boarding arrangement. Lift booking and sea-trial route should be agreed before attendance.

Find a surveyor in this region

New Territories & Tuen Mun

Tuen Mun · Castle Peak · northeast and northwest waters

State the precise yard or harbour and nearest landing point. Road access, contractor entry and vessel movement can differ substantially between facilities.

Find a surveyor in this region

Lantau & outlying islands

Discovery Bay · Lantau · outlying-island moorings

Ferry or launch travel may be necessary. Confirm boarding, weather contingency, shore facilities and whether the boat must move for lifting.

Frequently asked questions

Before you appoint a marine surveyor

What information is needed for a Hong Kong yacht survey?

Provide vessel details, exact club, mooring, marina, shelter or yard, boarding point, survey purpose and deadline, local contact, Class IV use and any lift, trial or specialist requirement.

Is a private pre-purchase survey a Marine Department survey?

No. A buyer or insurer survey is separate from local-vessel licensing, plan approval and survey administered under Hong Kong’s Marine Department framework.

Do all private pleasure vessels need a Certificate of Survey?

No. Marine Department guidance says many Class IV vessels used exclusively for pleasure and not let for hire or reward do not require plan approval or a Certificate of Survey, but specified large, novel-construction or hire-and-reward categories follow different rules.

When is an Authorized Surveyor or Appointed Organization relevant?

Marine Department publishes category-specific rules for Class IV survey and lists appointed organizations and authorized surveyors. The vessel’s length, tonnage, construction and hire use must be checked before selecting the statutory route.

Can a surveyor inspect a boat on a swing mooring?

Potentially, with safe sampan or tender access. Afloat inspection has limitations, so any separate lift, wash and underwater examination should be arranged with a suitable yard.

Are sampan, lift and sea-trial costs included?

Only when listed in the quotation. Club or marina fees, sampan or tender, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel, travel and specialist testing can be separate.

Can you help with commercial and specialist Hong Kong surveys?

Potentially. Hire-and-reward craft, workboats, damage, machinery, ultrasound, repair monitoring and on-hire or off-hire work require appropriate experience and any statutory acceptance.
