Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What information is needed for a Taiwan marine survey?
Provide vessel particulars, city and exact marina, harbour or yard, survey purpose and deadline, Mandarin-speaking contact, report recipient and requirements for haul-out, trials, drawings or specialist testing.
Is a private yacht survey an official Taiwan inspection?
No. Taiwan’s Maritime and Port Bureau oversees ship, small-ship and yacht registration, inspection and measurement. A buyer, insurer or owner survey is separate.
Can any surveyor perform registration or statutory work?
No. The Maritime and Port Bureau, flag administration or accepting body must confirm who may conduct the inspection, measurement or certification and what documents are required.
Can a surveyor inspect a yacht under construction?
Potentially. Give the specification, drawings, build stage, inspection milestones and reporting line. Yard approval and access to systems or closed spaces must be arranged.
Is Mandarin-language support required?
It is often important for access, technical discussions and records. State whether the owner, broker, builder or yard will provide a suitable bilingual contact.
Are travel and haul-out included in the survey fee?
Only when listed in the quotation. Rail, flights, ferries, accommodation, yard entry, lift, wash, relaunch, trials and specialist testing can be separate.
Can you help with specialist assignments in Taiwan?
Potentially. New-build supervision, repair monitoring, machinery, ultrasound, damage, delivery acceptance and commercial condition work require the appropriate technical specialist.
