Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What information is needed for a Namibia survey?
Provide vessel particulars, exact port or site, survey purpose and deadline, local agent or operator, vessel status, report recipient and any haul-out or specialist requirement.
Is a private survey a Directorate of Maritime Affairs survey?
No. Namibia’s Directorate of Maritime Affairs administers statutory inspection and registry functions. A buyer, insurer or owner survey is separate.
Does registration involve survey and tonnage?
Namibia’s Merchant Shipping Act provides for survey and tonnage ascertainment before registry when required by the proper officer. The Directorate must confirm the current procedure.
Can one surveyor cover Walvis Bay and Lüderitz?
Potentially, but the ports are widely separated. Travel, accommodation, access and repeat attendance should be quoted separately.
How does weather affect the assignment?
Atlantic swell, wind, fog and cold water can constrain trials, underwater work and open-coast boarding. A safe contingency is essential.
Are travel and yard costs included?
Only if listed. Flights or road travel, accommodation, port passes, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper and testing can be separate.
Can you help with fishing and commercial vessels?
Potentially. Fishing craft, workboats, damage, machinery, ultrasound, repair monitoring and on-hire or off-hire work require suitable experience and acceptance.
