One request, matched to the actual job

How it works

A practical route from request to inspection

The platform helps structure the enquiry and introduce suitable professionals. The selected surveyor remains responsible for agreeing scope, fee and terms with you.

1

Tell us about the yacht

Share the vessel, survey purpose, location, timing and any buyer or registry deadline.

2

We review the scope

We check geography, material, size, specialist needs and whether formal acceptance matters.

3

Receive a suitable introduction

Where available, we connect you with a surveyor whose stated capability fits the assignment.

4

Appoint independently

You compare the scope and terms, resolve conflicts and instruct the professional directly.

Important distinction

Professional membership is not automatic flag approval

For pre-purchase and condition work, competence, experience, insurance and independence are central. For tonnage, registration, coding or statutory work, the flag or accepting organisation may also require a specific appointment.

Sri Lanka marine survey locations

Plan the survey around Sri Lanka’s coasts and waterways

Sri Lanka’s principal ports sit on different coasts with seasonal conditions and controlled access. A Colombo transaction, Galle stopover or Trincomalee assignment can have very different travel, agent, lift and sea-trial logistics.

Colombo & west coast

Colombo · Port City area · Wattala and west-coast facilities

Differentiate marina or anchorage attendance from commercial-port access. Confirm agent, berth, security approval, equipment entry and the location of any haul-out.

Galle & south coast

Galle · Mirissa · southern harbours

Galle is a common yacht stopover, but access and repair capability vary. State the harbour, local agent, vessel status and whether underwater or shore-side access is arranged.

Find a surveyor in this region

Trincomalee & east coast

Trincomalee · Batticaloa · east coast

Plan travel from Colombo and consider seasonal weather. Commercial and naval-adjacent areas can require specific permission; confirm the responsible local contact.

Find a surveyor in this region

Hambantota & southeast

Hambantota · southeast coast · controlled port facilities

Advance port permission and agent coordination may be required. Identify the terminal or yard, visitor process, working window and whether the vessel can be moved.

Jaffna & northern waters

Jaffna · Kankesanthurai · northern harbours

Remote attendance needs a clear travel plan, exact harbour and local support. Confirm safe boarding, lift availability and any operational restrictions before appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Before you appoint a marine surveyor

What information is needed for a Sri Lanka marine survey?

Send vessel particulars, exact port, marina, anchorage or yard, survey purpose and deadline, local agent or access contact, report recipient and requirements for haul-out, trial, machinery, rig or specialist testing.

Is a private yacht survey an official Sri Lankan registry survey?

No. The Merchant Shipping Secretariat administers Sri Lankan registration and flag-state safety functions. A buyer’s, owner’s or insurer’s survey is a separate private assignment.

Does Sri Lankan registration require a vessel survey?

Sri Lanka’s Merchant Shipping Act provides for survey and tonnage ascertainment before registry, and the registry publishes a current application checklist. The Registrar must confirm the acceptable surveyor and documents for the vessel.

What applies to an older vessel seeking Sri Lankan registration?

The registry’s 2024 checklist states that a vessel more than 20 years old requires approval by a ship surveyor acceptable to the Director General of Merchant Shipping. Confirm the current rule and vessel-specific evidence before appointment.

Can one surveyor cover Colombo, Galle and Trincomalee?

Potentially, but these involve separate travel and port-access plans. State every attendance point, agent contact, expected schedule and whether repairs or follow-up visits are likely.

Are port access and haul-out included in the fee?

Only if listed in the written quotation. Agent support, security passes, travel, accommodation, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel and specialist testing can be separate.

Can you help with specialist and commercial surveys in Sri Lanka?

Potentially. Damage, machinery, ultrasound, repair monitoring, commercial condition, cargo or on-hire and off-hire work require appropriate experience and any client, flag or class acceptance.
