Marine surveys across India

Find the right marine surveyor for your boat in India

Request an independent marine surveyor for a yacht, boat or commercial assignment in India. Matching starts with the exact state, port, marina, yard or anchorage, vessel and survey purpose, access and haul-out arrangements and whether the report is private or must follow Directorate General of Shipping, Mercantile Marine Department, insurer, lender, flag or class requirements.

One request, matched to the actual job

How it works

A practical route from request to inspection

The platform helps structure the enquiry and introduce suitable professionals. The selected surveyor remains responsible for agreeing scope, fee and terms with you.

1

Tell us about the yacht

Share the vessel, survey purpose, location, timing and any buyer or registry deadline.

2

We review the scope

We check geography, material, size, specialist needs and whether formal acceptance matters.

3

Receive a suitable introduction

Where available, we connect you with a surveyor whose stated capability fits the assignment.

4

Appoint independently

You compare the scope and terms, resolve conflicts and instruct the professional directly.

Important distinction

Professional membership is not automatic flag approval

For pre-purchase and condition work, competence, experience, insurance and independence are central. For tonnage, registration, coding or statutory work, the flag or accepting organisation may also require a specific appointment.

India marine survey locations

Plan the survey around India’s coasts and waterways

India’s coastline spans multiple maritime administrations, port systems and major travel zones. West-coast yacht work, east-coast yards, island attendance and controlled commercial ports must be scoped from the actual berth and responsible local contact.

Mumbai, Goa & Konkan

Mumbai · Navi Mumbai · Goa · Konkan coast

Confirm whether the vessel is in a marina, club mooring, anchorage, shipyard or commercial port. Local launch access, tide, contractor approval and haul-out location can materially change the scope.

Gujarat & northwest coast

Kandla · Mundra · Porbandar · Gujarat yards

Commercial and industrial facilities require advance permissions and a local agent or yard contact. Identify the site, safety induction, equipment entry and travel plan.

Find a surveyor in this region

Kochi, Kerala & Lakshadweep

Kochi · Kerala coast · Lakshadweep

Kochi can support yacht and commercial work, while island attendance needs permits and transport planning. Confirm local operator, transfer, accommodation and weather contingency.

Chennai & southeast coast

Chennai · Puducherry · Tuticorin · southeast yards

State the port or yard and whether the vessel is afloat, ashore or under construction. Controlled access and long road transfers should be agreed before attendance.

Kolkata, Odisha & island territories

Kolkata · Haldia · Paradip · Andaman & Nicobar Islands

River, estuary and island assignments have distinct travel and access risks. Confirm tide or launch arrangements, permits, nearest airport and whether follow-up attendance is expected.

Frequently asked questions

Before you appoint a marine surveyor

What details are needed for an India marine survey quote?

Provide vessel type and particulars, exact state and facility, survey purpose and deadline, local access contact, intended report recipient and any haul-out, sea-trial, machinery, rig or specialist requirement.

Is a private pre-purchase survey an Indian registration survey?

No. A buyer or insurer survey is separate from survey and measurement required for Indian registry under the Directorate General of Shipping and the relevant Registrar or Mercantile Marine Department.

Who performs survey for registration of an Indian ship?

Published DGS procedure provides for registration survey through the Mercantile Marine Department or Indian Register of Shipping, subject to the applicable law and authorisation. The Registrar must confirm the route for the vessel.

Does a certificate of survey allow the vessel to operate?

Not by itself. DGS guidance states that registry survey and a certificate of registry do not remove the need for applicable statutory certificates and valid operational documents.

Can one surveyor cover multiple Indian ports?

Potentially, but India’s distances are substantial. Quote each port, flight or road transfer, accommodation, access procedure, island permit and likely follow-up visit separately.

Are port, launch and haul-out costs included?

Only where expressly included. Agent support, security passes, launch or tender, travel, accommodation, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel and specialist testing can be separate.

Can you help with commercial and specialist assignments in India?

Potentially. New-build supervision, repair monitoring, damage, machinery, ultrasound, cargo, on-hire or off-hire and warranty work require the appropriate competence and any client, flag or class approval.
