Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What information is needed for a Tunisia marine survey quote?
Provide the exact marina, port or yard, vessel particulars, construction, survey purpose and preferred date. Include local access contact, launch status, haul-out and trial arrangements, report language and any insurer, lender, registry or Tunisian authority requirement.
Is a private pre-purchase survey the same as a Tunisian registration inspection?
No. An independent buyer’s condition survey is separate from official registration, safety or certification procedures. Tunisia’s Office of Merchant Marine and Ports publishes vessel-registration forms and maritime-service procedures that must be followed independently.
What is the OMMP’s role?
The Office of Merchant Marine and Ports publishes maritime services and official forms including the single vessel-registration document and the record of registration of a Tunisian vessel. Confirm the current procedure and accepting office directly for the craft.
Can one surveyor cover northern and southern Tunisia?
Potentially, subject to availability and travel. Bizerte, Tunis, Hammamet, Monastir, Sfax and Djerba are distinct locations, so the actual facility and dates are needed before quoting.
Can I request an English- or French-language report?
Yes, include the required language in the request. Confirm the final language, recipient, reliance rights and whether Arabic or French forms or translations are required for official use.
Are travel, port access, haul-out and sea-trial costs included?
Only when expressly included in the surveyor’s written quotation. Travel, accommodation, port access, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel and specialist testing can be separate.
