Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What information is needed for a Lithuania marine survey quote?
Provide the exact marina, harbour, yard or inland access point, vessel particulars, construction, survey purpose and preferred date. Include launch status, haul-out and trial access, report language and any insurer, lender, registry or Lithuanian authority requirement.
Is a private yacht survey the same as an LTSA statutory inspection?
No. A buyer’s or insurer’s independent condition survey is separate from an inspection or certificate issued under Lithuanian maritime authority. The Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration states that it inspects Lithuanian-flag ships and issues mandatory documents.
Can any surveyor issue statutory documents on behalf of Lithuania?
No. LTSA states that only classification societies it has authorised may perform technical supervision and inspections and issue corresponding documents on behalf of Lithuania. Check the current authorised list and the accepting organisation before appointment.
Can one surveyor cover Klaipėda and inland Lithuania?
Potentially, but these are different travel and access assignments. Klaipėda and the Curonian Lagoon have maritime and lagoon logistics, while Kaunas, Trakai and lake locations may depend on ramps, clubs or seasonal storage.
Can I request an English-language report?
Yes, include English in the request. Confirm the final language, recipient, reliance rights and whether Lithuanian forms or translations are required for any official use.
Are travel, haul-out and sea-trial costs included?
Only when expressly included in the written quotation. Travel, port access, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel and specialist testing can be separate.
